Hi, have just noticed my 11 year old son has a flap at the base of his tongue, which looks like a smaller tongue on top of his "normal" tongue. Never noticed this before, but cannot find any information on it. He doesn't know it is there, and it does not seem to be causing him any discomfort. Keen to know what it is, and whether it needs to be dealt with..?? | |||

Hello steveh It is unlikely to be a cancer. It is most probably a developmental anomaly of no significance. If it is not bothering your son, it probably needs no treatment but you should get your doctor/paediatrician to examine it and get his/her view.
