How accurate are the brush biopsies performed by dentists and what different types of conditions can cause findings such as: "a typical cells abnormal", "definate abnormal findings requiring further testing"?

Thanks much - great information and helped alot. I should get the written results from the lab tomorrow but was told over the phone the brush biopsy came back "atypical". I'm hopeful, but need to be realistic a bit too - have had a nicotine addiction for so long, was told 3yrs ago I had that leukoplakia which doctors & dentists said was no big deal.
