Hello Doctor, Sorry I meant to type Dr. J

As I've stated on another topic. I've been getting blocked minor salivary glands on my right side of my soft palate for a year. I have them removed and the results come back benign. My doctor thinks they reoccur because of the trauma caused to the tissue from having them removed.

Twice they have been removed and twice they came back negative for cancer.

My question is can something benign become malignant?

Honestly it's a mild annoyance it swells up every few days then within 24-36 hours(usually when I eat something) the swelling goes back down. The bump is always there but It is for the most part painless, does not seem to be spreading, doesn't bleed.

Also I am really getting tired of having my mouth cut into several times a year, if this is going to keep happening, is this something I can live with?

thanks

Hello RevSherm

The mucous extravasation cysts (mucoceles) are a nuisance but benign. If you can live with them, you don't need to remove them as they do burst and discharge. Most times benign remains benign but you must be wary and if it feels not like before (i.e. larger, harder, more painful, etc) get it seen to immediately and biopsied.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes

Thank you Doc

I will keep an eye on it.

I think it keeps flaring up because it's in a location near the back of my soft palate where food is brushing up against it.

thank you for the reassuring advice

Happy Holidays
