In addition to the tiny lump on the inside of my cheek where your lip splits I am also getting some little whitedots on a red raised part on my lip, and when I turn the lip put (top one) theres some little whitish bumps there as well. I always get a slight itching before I end up with coldsores, and this happened here, but i've never had them on the part of my lip where my lip is pointed towards my teeth. Should I be concerned? Underneath my bottom lip (opposite one) also is a bit veiny and red, but i've looked at other people and have seen the same thing? I have an appointment with my GP in about 8 hours, should I ask to see a ENT? d

Went to see a GP today about the small lump on the inside of my cheek where the lip splits. He said that there was no reason to believe it was malignant (somthing he said they were very concerned about and kept a really close watch for)and to watch it for two or three weeks to see what happens and if it doesn't go away that he'd get in touch with a specialist, the fellow was quite compasionate and concerned with what I thought. He looked over the bump three or four times and really didn't think it was anything serious, but that he couldn't diagnose it with complete certainty. So I guess that means I should wait 1 week and then get in touch with the specialist?? d

I am just concerned because on the right side of my neck there are some lumps which have been diagnosed as "swollen lymph nodes" due to infection, they are sort of hard. I'm just concerned that perhaps those swollen lymph nodes are actually cancerous and that the bump in my mouth is a manifestation of spreading cancer? but I suppose doctors would know best, and I haven't really been having symptoms. d

Hi there Amarjudas Good to hear that you saw your doctor today. Hopefully it should have put your mind at rest. There are numerous mucous glands around the lips and cheeks that are normal. Some look like tiny white dots. For some, there is a tiny bump along the inner cheek, sometimes on both sides (where the lip meets in the corner)...that is just normal anatomy of your mouth. If you start to get any symptoms like the bump growing in size or causing pain and discomfort, then go back to see your dentist or doctor for a second opinion. With regard to your cold sores, there are antiviral creams which can help to ease discomfort. You can ask your GP or dentist to prescribe it for you. When you get a tingling sensation, just apply the cream. Hope that helps. I do infact have two little tiny bumps along the inner cheek where the lip meets the corner, the problem I went in for was that the one on the right side was a bit swollen. d

On occasion it can swell, but it eventually settles down. When it is swollen, you can catch it more easily between your teeth, so just be careful when eating. Also, it might sound funny, but try not to chew or suck on it...that only makes it swell more! Keep an eye on it. Any changes just go back to your doc or dentist. So, any ideas why it can swell, other than truama? or is there anyway to make the swelling go down quicker? d
