Hi,

I have recently discovered two dark coloured lumps on the underside of my tongue. One is about a third down, and the other is near the base. They are not painful, but make it hard to swallow.

The feeling of them being there comes and goes, and seems most prominent when eating or moving my tongue vigorously. I am a 21 year old non-smoker, occasional drinker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
I no doctor but I would suspect that you do not have cancer because of your age its highly unusual for some one your age to develop it in the mouth

Hello Derek

I don't think it is cancer! Big Grin

It is most probably saliva(mucous) extra-vasation into the tissue under the tongue causing a mucous retention cyst or 'ranula'

These mucoceles and ranulas tend to be relatively painless or asymptomatic lesions with little or no associated morbidity or mortality Smiler . Ranulas usually occur in children and young adults. Individuals with an oral ranula may complain of swelling of the floor of the mouth that is usually painless. The mass may interfere with speech, mastication, respiration, and swallowing because of the upward and medial displacement of the tongue Razzer . Oral ranulas may affect swallowing, speech, mastication, or respiratory function if they are large :wow: .

Please see your dentist or doctor to get a proper diagnosis and treatment  .

Best wishes

Vinod :coffee:
