I had a posting yesterday and now just received info that surgery is not always necessary for oral cancer of the tongue. We are trying to get a second opinion, but time is running out. Can you look at my post from yesterday and let me know what you think.

Hello Kimberley
The general advice is that if a cancer can be removed surgically without much morbidity, it is preferable as it avoids the side effects of radiotherapy and still keeps radiotherapy available as a treatment if required later. If the morbidity (speech defect, etc) will be too great, radiotherapy is used to avoid that. It is a balance of finding which treatment can successfully cure while causing lesser harm. Hope that helps. Best wishes Vinod Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice.
