Hi Dr Joshi
I have a very small flesh coloured/slightly paler hard round lump about 1mm in size right at the back of my tongue on the side where the lingual tonsil starts. It almost looks like a papilla which has got irritated and sticks out slightly in a hard lump. It is not on the top but on the side at the rear.

I have had all my rear bottom teeth taken out except one wisdom tooth on the side that the bump is. This tooth does rub against the bump and I also asked my dentist to file down my top teeth as these had been catching my tongue.

I first moticed this lump nearly a year ago. In that time it has not increased in size or done anything more sinister. I forgot to mention it to my dentist when I went but she didnt notice anything untoward back there anyway.

Do you have any idea what this could be - cancer, cyst, fibroma etc

Im female, mid 30's

Hello Janet

Sorry, I have no idea what it could be but it doesn't behave like a cancer might. I would advise that you ask your dentist about it and if you wish to be doubly reassured ask for a referral to the local maxillofacial surgeon for a diagnosis.

Best wishes
Vinod Coffee
