my dad started taking Lorazepam a few days ago, and in the past few days he has massive swelling on his face and mouth, and a bit on his neck. he's so swollen that he doesn't look like him - could this swelling be an allergic reaction to the Lorazepam??
he is also taking oramorph regularly (10 or 20mg, 4 or 5 times a day) and MST, which has been at 60/80, but is being lowered to 40/40 because dad has been very confused and seemed to be losing the plot a bit the last few days. i am wondering if this could also be a side effect of the Lorazepam as he has never had any problems like this with MST or Oramorph before??

thank you.

Hannah,

I've taken Lorazepam and am familiar with the side effects stated on the accompanying documentation.

None of the published side effects for Lorazepam include your Dad's symptoms. He may have the fluke effect or there is something else going on. Anything described as 'massive swelling' demands immediate attention.

dad ended up in a+e at 6am that morning, they gave him adrenaline, steroids, piriton etc and his swelling has gone down now. they gave him a 5 day course of 5-a-day steroids, but the swelling did come back up, however yesterday and today he hasn't taken his lorazepam and there are no signs of swelling - so we are all assuming that this was the cause. went to gp this morning he said it is fine to replace lorazepam with higher dose of diazepam. so all is well at the moment with this
