I think peroxide may be the culprit. I had thrush a few weeks ago, and was using food grade hydrogen peroxide to get rid of it. Now I have these bumps. The thrush is not completely gone, but I will switch to probiotic rises, and maybe salt water gargle. I noticed that many mouthwashes are putting peroxide in now. Check the labels.

i know exactly what your all going through, i've had it my entire life, i've tried everything.
only thing that works moderately well is a chemical called CHLORHEXIDINE GLUCONATE DO NOT USE ONE WITH ETHANOL

its in specific mouthwashes. go look for it in your local supermarket.

Thank you all for your posts. I was extremely relieved to find enlarged circumvallate papille was my problem. I had noticed a very dry and sore throat and coughing I assumed was a cold starting up. I have also had some sinus inflammation due to allergies and an infection is possible as I am prone to them. I noticed it today after lunch when I looked in the mirror because I felt like I maybe had a chip or something stuck in my throat. I suspect stress, sinuses, my asthma inhaler and eating more oranges than normal are the contributing factors in my case. Been eating oranges like crazy lately and they are really acidic. Oranges have caused me some really mean canker sores in the past. Hope this helps, thanks!

So this evening I used Advanced Listerine (arctic mint flavor) I then used my tongue scrapper then the listerine again & I didn't notice the circumvallate papillae on the back of my tongue till I used the tongue scrapper and it felt like it was hitting something. I stuck my tongue out as far as I could and noticed 3 tiny red bumps on each side kinda like a "V" shape on my tongue Frowner

Does anyone have annoying sensations on/or near their enlarged circumvallate papillae? Besides their large appearance, what symptoms do they bother people with?
