Hello all i have a question and maybe you all can help.
I am a 24 year old male, who is in good health, i excerise 3 times a week and quite enjoy it.
when i was 17 i noticed that when i stuck my tounge out i could see what looked like " a second tounge" down my throat. its quite painless but i know its there. it doesnt effect my breathing nor does it interfere with my cardio system. But i notice that i have more flem then most people my age.
It is hard to describe and given that i have gone almost 8 years without treatment i am pretty sure it is not harmfull. but its kinda scary to look at and feel. any one have any idea what it could be?
thanks alot

Hello Luispad

The epiglottis is a flap of tissue that sits at the base of the tongue that keeps food from going into the trachea, or windpipe, during swallowing. It's the part of your body that flops down over the windpipe when you swallow to keep food from going into your lungs. Without your epiglottis, you would cough or choke every time you eat.

If you manage to stick out your tongue far enough you might just see it. Videoclip: The epiglottis appearing as a 'second tongue'.

Good party trick, Roll Eyes but it is not a cancer. Be sensible and stop sticking your tongue out so far as it can strain the area.

Best wishes
