Possible malignancy on tonsil.

Hi all. I've had a large ulcer on my left tonsil for about 5 weeks now. I've done a lot of reading and it does have a lot of potebtial cancerous signs although there are a couple of things that make me question this:

Firstly the ulcer grew big pretty quick within a coupl of weeks and from what I've heard cancerous ulcers grow a lot slower, is this true?

Also it was a little painful initially but now 5 weeks on it is a big ulcre with one raised side but has virtually no pain.

It measures approx 2 x 2.5 cm and grew to this size within a couple of weeks. I have no other signs of malignancy no swelling in any area of my neck or face, no pain, no tiredness or weight loss. Would I be expected to have other signs if a cancerous tumour was this big?

I am aware of a rare occurrance known as necrotizing sialometaplasia which could fit?

I will see a ENT specialist thias Thursday so will know but just wondered your thoughts.

Thanks for your time.

Hello Alimac

You are doing the right thing in seeing a specialist. It could just be an infected tonsil crypt but your ENT specialist might wish to biopsy it to be sure. It is not possible to guess these things.

Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
