Cyst under Upper Lip

Hi Everyone, I'm battling something for the past 2 months and its really got me worried. I got hit in the mouth a few months ago from Basketball and bit my upper lip. The wound healed fine, it was not a big cut or anything. A few weeks after it healed a bump started to form on the right side of my lip. I went to the doctor a few times and she thought it was a hematoma and said it should go away. After a month later it did not so I had it removed. Well now the bump is gone however I see a small bit of fluid on the tip of lip sorta near where the bump was removed. I am scared that this is the cyst reforming in another section of my lip. Has anyone heard of a problem like this? I don't want to get another surgery as I cannot feel my lip anymore. This is horrible. Thanks guys for the help.

Hello mybump

A mucous retention cyst can sometimes occur subsequent to trauma to a minor salivary gland in the lip. Sometime the act of removing it can cause trauma to an adjacent saliva gland and start another cyst! Give it time and if it doesn't resolve , see your doctor and get it removed and hope for better luck this time. Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Thanks Doctor, I got my biopsy result back. I have some rare disease called Nodular Fasciitis? The doctor said that she was not able to get all of it out so it may grow back. What kind of doc says this after the surgery? I hope this goes away. Do cell change back to normal? Thanks!

Hell mybump

It is not a disease but a reaction to an injury: Nodular Fasciitis.

Recurrence rates vary from 1-6% with this treatment and some lesions have been reported to regress and disappear without treatment. Smiler
