Any idea what this lump is on roof of mouth? Pics inside.Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
So this lump came up. Hurts a bit, very hard under skin on the roof of my mouth. A few mm across, felt a bit like the root of a tooth under the skin. Asked a Doctor on the helpline, says its typically an infected minor salivary gland and to wait. It bled quite a bit after cleaning my teeth and now its exposed. Took these pics over 4 days, should I be worried?

Hello mrmoo Good photos! I would suspect a discharging sinus from an infection from a non-vital tooth as several of the teeth adjacent to it are restored. You need to see your dentist for a diagnosis. Usually a radiograph of the area with a GP point inserted into the sinus will show it pointing to the offending tooth. Vitality testing is part of the diagnostic procedure required. Hope that helps. Thank you for such a quick response. I think its great that you give your time for this forum. The underlying swelling which feels localised to the hard palate went down a lot over night, seems to swell a bit during the day. I intend to post a few ongoing pics for anyone searching in the future. Its just possible to make out, what I think is two small orifices involved in the swelling. Can't say if its going just yet, but I'm not aware of any drainage. I'll get a dental appointment and give it a few days to see if it heals, hopefully its not a tract to an infected root. EDIT: Ok, just to follow up two days later. The lump has gone down and left some scar tissue behind. No idea what it was or if it will come back. Suspect an infected salivary gland. So far so good.
