hi i am 18 years old and today i felt some sort of lump just about an inch back from my chin. (not 100% that it is a lump or natural). which kinda worried me and i search signs of throat/mouth cancer. i have found traces of blood once about 3 days ago in my sliva. just last night i thought that i was finding it hard to breath. i have been loosing my voice but not alot a quick cough and i am good to go. i havent went to see the doctor as i have only started to think... but what i did see was that throat/mouth cancer more and likely starts at 45. as before i am only 18... am i just being paranoid or what should i do...This message has been edited. Hi Kieran At the risk of sounding like your mom, the first thing you should do is to quit smoking. That said, I'll stop nagging. Have you been to a doctor about your symptoms? No one on this site would say you were "just being paranoid" about this; we take mouth/head/neck problems quite seriously. The internet, for all its wonder and usefulness, is generally a poor diagnosis tool, especially if you're already worried out of your shorts. The prospect of cancer, wherever it might happen, is terrifying, but please try to relax; stress tends to exacerbate any other problems you have. Just because you don't fit the profile does not mean you're immune. I don't smoke, rarely drink, and am female, yet I was diagnosed with stage 2 tongue cancer when I was 40. Heck, even my doctor said I shouldn't have gotten it, but TA-DAAH! I now have a store-bought tongue. Hoping for the best for you. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

Thanks julia does it sound like cancer/is it? ive seen some people on this site saying about lump on chin and around so im hoping thats nothing. breathing only happened last night.. and it was the first... blood in my slivia was couple of days ago for about 10mins... and no more since...my voice going could be because of working in a office on phones quite abit... please more views...

Hey Kieran Unfortunately, I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. The best way to rule out cancer is to see either your GP or your dentist. Blood in saliva could be from a gums-related problem, or from brushing your teeth too vigorously, or you might be a vampire and not know it Please go see a doctor. Hello Kieran Please take Julia's advice. It is most probably not a cancer but do see your doctor or dentist if concerned or it gets worse or it doesn't improve over the next 2 - 3 weeks. Best wishes Vinod Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice. Good Evening Kieran, I go along with Julia on a couple of points, firstly the internet is a poor diagnosis tool. You are obviously worried about this so see your dentist or doctor...... soon! I wish like hell I had not waited to see if things would clear up. The other point is "stub that fag out right now and don't light another one" Smoking is a major cause of mouth cancer and believe you me it just is not worth the risk. Where abouts in Ireland are you? before I retired I travelled in your country a lot. My favourit place was Kinsale and I had a good customer there so I had to visit often. The business took a couple of hours but usually I was away from the office for a week. Keep Smiling John

thanks very much everyone for the advise... i joined this community yesterday and i appreciate the time taken from Dr's and other people that have unfortunately been diagnosed for cancers. John i am from belfast which is the north of ireland. Many thanks Kieran

just make information about the lump a bit more clearer. it isnt on my neck once i push in i can feel it.

Sorry for making so many posts on my own subject. just to keep you updated i just booked a appointment for next thursday 22nd for 09:10. im not actually to sure what doctor i am getting as i was told "the doctors who are usually in the practice are not on next week and that locums are doing appointments" what ever that means... but i bet it is better than not seeing no one.
|
Hi Kieran You might want to take someone with you to the appointment, and possibly a notebook with pertinent questions in it. Doctors appointments can be daunting under the best of circumstances and a companion and/or reminder notes can be helpful. I really hope everything goes well for you. FIVE DAYS 'TIL A NEW PRESIDENT! Hi all. Went to GP yesterday and the Dr had a feel around. she said that it could be a swollen gland. But said since i smoke drink "spirits" and because i have had some of the symptons of throat cancer that she wont take any chances. so from there i went round to the nurse and she took a blood sample i got to go back in 2 weeks for blood results. Oh and also i have stopped smoking since monday. cold turkey. doctor gave me prescription for patches i went and got them but dont intend to put any more nicotine into my body. its easy!
|
Hi Kieran I have my fingers crossed for you (makes typing hard I've never been a smoker, but I understand quitting is difficult. If you find yourself needing a patch, by all means use it. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

Well done kieran ,you have taken Julia's advice and gone to doctors. You are young and I am sure your results will prove to be some kind of infection and nothing more serious .You have been responsible and stopping smoking is a positive step in the right direction for good health in the future ,well done to you ,it will be hard so just take it a day at a time . Keep us posted ,best wishes , Bell and Paul.
