Blister on inside of lip

Hello, this may be a repeat question but I'm a bit worried about a blister that has formed on the inside of my lip. It first appeared 30 days ago and I just assumed I had bitten it somehow. It seemed to be getting smaller for a while it flared up again this weekend. It is smooth and appears to be filled with clear fluid, although it is now redder than it was. To borrow someone elses description on this board, it is about the size of a pencil eraser.

I have booked in to see a doctor but I wonder if anyone can either immediatly set my mind at ease and/or refer me to any online photographs to help with a self diagnosis?

Many thanks, Lee

Hi LeeW

Small saliva glands are present in the inner side of the lower lip. Most of us remain unaware of them until we start exploring the lip. Occassionaly if damaged, e.g. through nipping or nibbling the lip, saliva leaks into the tisue and gives rise to a mucous retention (or extravasation) cyst.

Best wishes

Thank you very much for your reply and the picture link Dr. J. That's exactly what it looks like.

Good luck to you and everyone on this very helpful website.

Cheers, Lee

Ok, this seems to be my problem too.... but what can be done about it. Its annoying! I was putting a needle through it at first and it would release the fluid (a mucous type substance) build up... but it always came back. Now the fluid wont release and I keep biting it on accident, and when I do... it kinda hurts. I also wanted to make sure this was nothing to be worried about. Smiler
