Ear fullness

I got a problem I've been dealing with for some time now. Back in January I was dealing with ear fullness in my right ear. The fullness would come and go. Sometimes it would hang around for a few days. Sometimes it would come and go throughout the day. After going to the ENT he found there was nothing wrong with my ear/throat/nasopharnyx and no hearing loss. He prescribed me two different subscriptions to treat allergies thinking that might be the problem. The allergy meds didnt do much but after a few weeks the fullness subsided. Now 4 months later the fullness is back in the same ear and still comes and goes randomly. At times its worse than other times but its nearly maddening. It usually feels like I have water in my ear that won't come out. The reason that I'm posting on this forum is because I was a smokeless tobacco user for about 5 years up until last November. Could this be related?

p.s. I've been told I grind my teeth at night and often experience jaw joint pain on the left side but never on the right side where the ear fullness is. I'm constantly adjusting my jaw to try and unstop my ear.

Hi Homer45

Sometimes, the sensation of ear fullness is related to muscle overactivity related to clenching/bruxing. You will find this advice given on clenching and bruxism useful. Follow it and let us know how you get on.

Dr. Joshi,

Its been a couple more months and the ear thing is still hanging around. Only this time I seem to have a burning sensation in my right nostril that seems to come along with the fullness sensation in my right ear. I went back to see my local ENT once more but once again he could not determine what it might be. He said there were no signs of cancer yet looking at the signs and symptoms of mouth cancer on this website leave me less convinced. Have you ever heard of anything like this before? As mentioned the fullness comes and goes from day to day, even throughout the day. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Homer

It's good that you're following up on this, it's just too bad that your ENT isn't getting anywhere.

Were any x-rays or scans to see if there's some kind of blockage? Is there another ENT in your area, or in the same practice, who could take a look?

Hoping for the best!

Julia

Hi Julia,

Yes I had an MRI in February but it was due to some numbness I was having in one of my arms. If there were some kind of blockage causing this new problem would that MRI have shown it? The MRI came back completely negative by the way.
