Teenage son has growth in mouth with white spot

Hello,
I'm really hoping that you can help to put my mind to rest. About a year and a half ago my then 13 1/2yods was found to have a growth in the back of his mouth, between his huge tonsils, extending from the top of his mouth to almost touching the back of the tongue. This made swallowing difficult for him as food was getting caught on it.

He went to the hospital at that time and the doctor thought it was a wart. My son was sexually abused when he was younger and my concern at that time was that this could be a std. The dr said they would be able to snip it off easily.

Now he is 15 and the hospital has finally given him an appointment. When they looked in his throat again the dangling bit was still there but now there is a white spot on it. He will be having an op. on Monday to do a biopsy and they will be checking his throat and nose for any more. I wasn't able to go to this pre-op appointment but was told that they are more concerned about the spot than the growth now.

Are you able to tell me what the growth and spot are? Are they related or is it two different things to treat?

Many thanks,
worried mum in New Zealand

Hello Worried Mum

You will have to wait for the result of the biopsy to know. Most times it will turn out to be no consequence. Have a good weekend and relax.

Best wishes
