Biopsy Report - still questions

Hi everyone - I saw the doctor this afternoon about my tongue biopsy - he said although it wasn't malignant yet, it could turn into cancer - the biopsy report says """Segment of squamous mucosa demonstrating reactive atypia; granulation tissue and severe inflammation""" - I am scheduled to see an oral surgeon next - I have a lot of capped teeth since 1993 and my dentist says my teeth are not causing a problem - so - I haven't had a chance to research yet - I just wanted to let you all know what I know and find out if the report means anything more to you - he said it's like cancer develops in stages and what I have is the stage before cancer - he said we may have to cut out some of the tongue to get rid of the inflammation - am I going the right way to see the oral surgeon next? - sort of a second opinion I guess - he did give me a prescription for some cream and scheduled me to come back in a month to keep a watch on it and find out what the oral surgeon says - Thanks for your help - Hope you all are feeling good today - Pam

Hello Pam

It is GOOD news -it is not cancer! See the Oral Surgeon and take his advice. If the lesion is small, removing it may be advised as it removes the worry of watching over it. But even after removing it, be watchful as the adjacent tissue in the area can sometimes be prone to develop atypia, but do not be fearful.

Best wishes
