Left side lump...

So for the past few days, I noticed a portion of flesh under my tongue seemed larger than normal and was slightly painful.

I went to my doctor and he prescribed my with Bonjella and amoxycillin. I wondered how he could quickly come up with such a diagnosis so quickly...

Well it has been a day since I started taking amoxycilin and my tongue feels more annoying now than it did before, but more than that it has a white lump under it to accompany the swelling...

Here is an image.

I don't quite know what to do, I have 6 days more amoxycilin to take and a part of me feels as though this GP has fobbed me off.

One thing is for sure it got white quickly after 3 doses of amoxycilin.

Thanks in advance.

Marx

Hi Marx

You did the right thing by seeing a doctor in the first place, but it sounds as if you might have brought in something that was beyond his area. Did the doctor run any kind of a test on this thing? You might want him to give you a referral to an oral surgeon if it doesn't clear up.

His test went no further than visual identification and prodding with a stick (Tongue depressor).

I will be returning to the doctors again in about 2 days time if it persists and seeking an alternative diagnosis.

But according to most online sources, it all looks like bad news.

This is why I don't self diagnose. Hard to be objective when I can't run tests or have any real medical experience.

As far as I can tell it is an abscess, but it's primary cause is unknown, all i know is that it appeared after taking the second dose of Amoxycilin, which would indicate a correlative link but I cannot say if it is a causative link.

Good Morning Marx,
You would not normally expect to see any positive result from Amoxycillin until the the 3rd or 4th day so don't jump to conclusions too quickly, give it time to work. It is important to take the full course of any antibiotic , don't give up taking this medication part way through because you think it is not doing any good or it has already worked, take the whole lot in the manner prescribed.
You seem to have a down on your doctor; why not try your dentist? he spends all his life peering into one person or another's mouth and he is very familiar with what goes on in there, if he has any doubts he will refer you to the local Maxillofacial clinic for an expert opinion.
Instead if visiting a lot of websites (where you will always find conflicting opinions and the odd prophet of doom) why not give the professionals a chance?
Keep Smiling
John
