Hi everyone, I'm a 40 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with SCC of the tongue and I'm having surgery to have a large portion of the right side of my tongue removed this Thursday. I would like to hear from anyone who has had this surgery. Also, I'm interested in anyone who has had reconstructive surgery of the tongue. My specialist has told me that he won't reconstruct my tongue but I feel I would like the reconstruction if I can find someone to do it for me.
Take care, C x |

Hi,
I am 36 and had an operation to remove a scc tumour of my tongue, in December. I think that about half of my visible tongue was removed and I had a fore arm free flap procedure where tissue was taken from my arm to partially reconstruct my tongue. It was daunting and I was frightened but the recovery time was much better than I had feared and treatment/care superb. The op took about 10 hours and I was in hospital for two weeks. I am now having radiotherapy and chemo and the op seems a long time away! please feel free to contact me if yuo think I can beof ny help - I know a little of how you might be feeling and wish yuo every postive thought |
