Bump on the back of my tongue..

Hello,
I all of a sudden began to have to this feeling in the back of my throat like there was something back there to swallow, last night into this morning. About two days ago I felt a bad ear infection come upon my right side, which I went to the doctors for and got prescribed z-pack. Today is my second day on z-pack, and this morning I felt this irritation in the back of my throat. This afternoon I decided to have a look to see if I could actually see the problem. When I looked at the back of my throat and "said ahh," I saw a large lump on the right side of the back of my tongue, back where my uvula was which I believe is what it touches everytime I swallow. I was wondering if this was normal or if I should get it checked out. It is very annoying seeing everytime I swallow it is there. Please let me know!

Hello mel o

Bumps at the back of the tongue can be normal anatomy like circumvallate papillae or lingual tonsils. So, it is unlikely that you are seeing a cancer. Stop pulling your tongue too far out to look at as that can strain it. However, if you notice increasing soreness or difficulty in swallowing, do see your doctor or dentist at once for a proper diagnosis.
