Dr. Joshi: A month ago I had a hard lump removed from the floor of my mouth. It was biopsied and found to be hyperkeratosis with no dysplasia. When the doctor excised the lump, he told me that it was very superficial. There was swelling right after he removed the lump. Now I have a large mass like scar tissue on the floor of my mouth. I'm scared that it might be cancer. I am a 1/2 pack/day smoker, but now quitting. I am 48 years old (female). Can this be cancer? I am scared.
