The roof of my mouth will sometimes "clench up" or tighten when I eat certain foods. I have never noticed a pattern with the foods I eat and which cause this. When this happens, I have to sit for a moment in extreme pain, and wait until it subsides. It usually takes 5 minutes.
Two days ago, I had another episode of this, but this time it has not gone away, it has been bothering me since, it is on one side of my mouth, on the roof. The consistency of this area also feels different then the other when i touch it with my toungue than the pain free side. Consequently, I have also developed an ear ache on the same side as the pain. Any thoughts as to why the roof of my mouth does this? Is it an allergic reaction? Something more serious possibly? (one food in particular that I have noticed this happen with, not everytime, but often is doughnuts...lol..not sure why.) |

Hello Logan
It is not possible to make a diagnosis over the Internet based on that information you gave. You should see your dentist for a proper examination and diagnosis of your mouth to see if your symptoms can be explained. This is a strange presentation of mumps. The pain around the ear i can understand as that is adjacent to the parotid salivary glands that are commonly infected and swell up but "on one side of my mouth, on the roof. The consistency of this area also feels different then the other when i touch it with my toungue than the pain free side " is something I can't work out!
