I am 27 years old and I have had this growth for at least 4 years. I had my wisdom teeth cut out and I thought that is what caused this. It is soft tissue and moves around quite a bit. It grows very slowly and now gets bitten sometimes when I eat.
The funny thing is that it never concerned me until my general practitioner took a look at my tonsils this week and asked about it. Now she has made an urgent referal and I am scared.

Can this be something non cancerous?

It looks like a fibroma as it has been slow growing over four years. How did you live with that without getting attention . It needs to be removed through an excision biopsy (this not a big operation). You should promptly arrange to see an oral & maxillofacial surgeon for a proper definitive diagnosis and its removal which will improve your comfort. Your dentist and doctor should be able to assist with the referral.
