Obturator problem - lingering film-like feeling in mouthGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
My mother was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer in her upper jaw last November. Since then she has undergone 8 weeks of radiation and now has an obturator to replace her two front teeth and upper palate. She has now had the obturator for 6 months, and she is still experiencing problems with it. She describes the feeling as a mucous film that is coating her mouth and tongue that she cannot get rid of. I am wondering if this is a common problem others have experienced and if anyone has any suggestions on how she might get reduce the feeling.

Slawrence, If there is anyone out there with the answer to this question PLEASE let me know. I have had this probelm for the last year. I still have to use a suction machine to TRY to get the mucos up and out. You know if it wasn't for that I would be so much better off. But it builds up and I all but gag. There have even been times that I cannot breathe because of it..So I am with you on this question..I am sorry to hear this about your Mother. I have CANCER in the lower jaw...Always Vicki Lynn
