HI!

Its been awhile since I have been on here...but I am writing for some advice. I had my teeth cleaned last week (nov 30 I think) and two days ago I felt "something weird" under my lower front teeth (felt it with tip of tongue), midway between teeth and floor of mouth. I break out the ole handy dandy bent type thingy mirror and there was a weird smooth/sorta sore white spot, it was small.

(I had something very similar a year ago in October, I think I was eating peanuts or something ended up with a sore and weird spot for a couple of weeks and then it was gone.)

Next day it was WEIRDER! Larger, blazing red ring around it and doubled in size, still white...I high tailed it to the dentist...he said to me...and I quote "I have NO idea what it is, Just showed up, huh?" Told me he didnt think it was serious and to come back in two weeks if it didnt go away. Said it might be a blocked salivary gland and to gargle "aggressively" What the heck does that mean?

Today...went to see my husbands ENT...he said (without using the bent mirror like I have and the one the dentist used)he could see it and said it was an apthicus (sp?) ulcer and that is should be gone in 4 weeks...so...I have to go back in four weeks. He also said that if it wasnt he would biopsy it and that the chances of it being cancer were pretty low. Wanted to silver nitrate me or something and I opted out of that little pleasurable fiasco, thank you very much! Recommended oragel, but its not hurting that bad...actually,just when I mess with it feels a little sore.

Finally, I have another appt tomorrow with my reg ENT...I am freaking out...could this be something horrid? If so, since I had my teeth cleaned last week, if it were there, wouldn't they have seen it (both hygenist and dentist do the oral cancer screening) and do terrible things pop up like this?

Don't know what I am going to do...but need to find out what it is before I faint from worry.

Anyone have anything like this or any advice...ENT said gargling with salt wouldnt help...any advice is greatly appreciated!

Cathy

Hiya Cathy
You are of course, right to be very cautious and it's understandable that you are worrying and I've got no wise words to offer ...... apart from keep on top of it and don't be pushed off by anyone. Fact is though, if it's an ulcer it will probably go just as fast as it appeared.

Hi Cathy,

Do keep an eye on it. My neice does this everytime she has dental work ends up with a sore in her mouth or her mouth hurts and gets a sore throat. If it is not gone shortly I would revisit the ENT.

Hi,

Thank you both for replying...it was an inflammed salivary gland...I went to my regular ENT and said it was not an ulcer or pappiloma...and should go away and its now gone.

Thank you so much for your advice!!!
