Hi doctor,
I am Prashant i had made a checkup with a dentist last week then they found a white spot inside my mouth with behind my cheek skin. They are telling me that this is a Prestage cancer. Previously i was chewing tobacco and smoking ciggarretes from last 3 years. but i had quit gutkha and pan since 1 year. Right now i am smoking 2-3 ciggarates a day. So what should i do and what precautions should i take and in how many days it will be cured. Please let me know i am very serious about this.
Thanks in advance

Regards,
Prashant

Hi Prashant

I agree completely with HelpingDad's advice. As for how long it will take for the white spot to heal, there is no quick answer. The damage didn't occur overnight, so it's not going to get better overnight. Prompt treatment is the best bet for a good outcome.

Hello Prashant

Your dentist has told that the white spot is a premalignant (not yet cancerous) lesion.

The above link and this link about Premalignant Conditions of the Oral Cavityshould inform you of the management of these lesions.

So you need to stop smoking totally now. The lesion may or may not disappear. The recommendation for such lesions is for the oral surgeon to do a excision biopsy to remove it and confirm that it is not cancerous.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes

Hi,

Thanks for your reply Vinod and Julia but i want ask you that if i am smoking 2-3 ciggaretes a day i will make more damage to that portion???

It is just a white spot and only one spot is there so ciggarate can harm more to it??
One more thing i want to ask is that is it a prestage cancer or something else?? I also feel pain in my mouth when i eat some hot and spicy foods. This is due to this thing only.It will go automatically or i have to take any treatment for this and what will be the cost for it.

Kindly guide me in this.

Regards,
Prashant

Hi Prashant

To put it bluntly, there is no such thing as a safe number of cigarettes.

Only your doctors can tell you whether the spot in your mouth is precancerous or something else. I've always viewed pain as nature's way of telling me that there's something wrong. You're reminding me of my mother's sage advice: if it hurts when you do something, then don't do it.

Please heed Dr Joshi's advice and see a doctor as sooon as possible to have this examined and treated.

Julia
