Hi.
so about 2 years ago i first noticed a little bumpy thing on the roof of my mouth. never paid any mind to it. it wasnt a concern, didnt ever bother me. i forgot about it. then, recently, i noticed another bump in the same area (i dont remember its exact location, as i said, i forgot about it) im not sure if its the same bump, but either way. this time, its bigger, softer, and hurts. it sort of feels like a wart, but, it hurts alot more this time. i feel it all the time. i recently visited my dentist, and he said he had never noticed it before. they took a picture of it to put in a book in thier office lol. shows how small my dentist is, as he said he hadnt really seen anything like it. anyway, they referred me to an oral surgeon, in which i am going to see thursday. i am 19 and i have smoked a couple times, asa matter of fact for like a month like 1 a day before i realized how stupid it is and promptly quit. i dont drink. a sip a couple times, always end up spitting it out because i hate the taste. as much as i play it off,and act like im not worried, or crack jokes about it, it really worries me and i fear the worst. my grandmother was a smoker for many years and got cancer on her tongue that the doc said was nothing, then we ame to find out it was cancer and she was dead within 6 months as it spread to her lungs and brain. so naturally i think the worst. the oral surgeon i know is good as he removed my wisdom teeth and is highly recommended. its not discolored, about the size of a decent wart. im really worried and looking for some way to relive my concerns until the appt. thanks. |

I am far from an expert, but here is what I do know:
1. Smoking for 1 month will not spontaneously cause cancer. I would suggest not smoking any more, but it likely does not play any role in this. 2. My understanding is that cancer does not start out painful, so if you just noticed this and it recently grew there, I would try to calm your worries until you see the oral surgeon. I think cancer growths are usually white and not painful. Most of all, do your best to keep calm until your appointment. It's most likely NOT cancer. I am in a similar situation where I am waiting for a dentist appointment to look at a lump and also doing my best to calm my nerves. God Speed |

Hi
In addition to what Ben has already said, I would say that if it has been there for about two years, it is unlikely to be a malignant cancer, so relax and wait for your oral surgeon's diagnosis. He might need to biopsy it. Let us know how you get on. well i went to the surgeon today. they are going to cut it out on wednesday. he said that he would just numb it and remoe it but there isnt enough gum space. so i have to go under. he also said they cant stitch it so it will be exposed bone until it heals. He will test it and let me know a week after.
