The dentist told me to come back in a month if it didn't go away. I'm really stessing.
It doesn't hurt or can I feel it. They only found it when I had my teeth cleaned. I had no idea it was there. Do you think it could be cancer? Should I go to my regular Dr. where I have insurance? Julie Julie |

Hey julie
sounds to me like your dentist is on the case.theres a well worn phrase on forums like these it aint cancer till someone says "its cancer",so try not to stress about it and see what happens in a month.Your dentist is following standard protocol for situations like yours and although it will be a nerve racking time i am not sure a doctor can tell you anything different. take care liz Love liz Never take your eye off the ball it may just smack you in the mouth |

Hello Jewels63
A white lesion is not always a mouth cancer. It could be lichen planus or hyperkeratosis or leukoplakia (Latin: for white plaque!). This article on Leukoplakia should tell you all you need to know about white patches in the mouth. Meanwhile, keep an eye on it and see your dentist earlier if it goes bigger or bleeds or ulcerates. Let us know how you get on. Best wishes Vinod Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice. Thank you Liz and Vinod.
I guess I was wondering if my regular physican can DX it as I don't have dental insurance anymore? But if I go to a regular Dr. or sent out to someone else, it will be covered by my insurance. BTW that white spot has a tiny red spot in the middle. Vinod, I will go read that link you gave me. Thank you so much. I will check back when I get some answers. My appt. with the Dentist isn't until Feb. 19th. Julie Julie |

I went to a Otolaryngologist. He told me it was Leukoplakia with some Lichen planus surrounding it. He advised me to have it biopsied and removed. It was done in March and showed no abnormal cells. Yesterday I happen to look inside my mouth and see many more white spots.
I am going to go back for a follow up in Sept. but should I maybe go see him now instead of waiting? Julie |

Hi Julie
In cases like this, it's best to err on the side of caution. I know that September is only a few weeks away (eeep!), but a lot could happen in those weeks. This is clearly troubling you, so by all means, see if you can get in earlier than that. I hope that everything turns out well. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos! |

I quit smoking March 1, 1975 and quit drinking Jan. 1, 1989.
So why this is happening is beyond me. ??? I will make an appt. tomorrow morning. Today is Sunday or I would today. Is there anything they can do beside do more biopsies? Julie |
