Had a lump for 2 months - Panicking

Hi Everyone

I have had a lump on my gum for 2 months now. I initially thought it was just an ulcer but it has not cleared up. It is about 5mm in diameter and spongy, not hard. It was initially white, but is now red. I don't feel any pain except if I push it quite hard, then it just feels like a painful nerve. I went to see my GP who said she would refer me to a specialist but I have already waited a week and have not received an appointment. I know it is notoriously difficult to get an appointment through NHS with a specialist but I obviously don't want to waste time, just in case. I am really starting to stress and would like to know how long other people have waited for appointments for this kind of lump?
Kind regards
Vicki

Good afternoon Vicki,
I am surprised that you have heard nothing after one week,I think I would be having a word with my GP just in case something has been overlooked .Particularly when one considers that the standing advice is "if you have something unusual in your mouth which does not clear up in three weeks see the dentist/doctor" I am sure response times vary around the country but oncology clinics are usually quite smart off the mark.I received a phone call the day after my referal to say an appointment was available one week hence but if I could be at the clinic that afternoon I would be seen---I was there.
I hope you get an appointment soon and more important I hope your lump is nothing serious,Please let us know how you get on.
Keep Smiling Razzer
John

Vicki,

Definitely chase this up.

My former GP forgot to refer me, I only found out two weeks later when I chased it up.

Remember the vast majority of problems are nothing serious, but it is better to know.

Kind Regards

Sarah

Call you Doctor and tell him that you want to see a specialist righ away. It probably nothing but get it checked out.

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words. I had a bad night last night, bit of an emotional breakdown because of the worry, but it was wonderful to log on this morning and read your replies. Thank you so much! I am just waiting for my GP offices to open and I will be chasing up an appointment.

Regards
Vicki
