For a year since my treatment the only drink that I can bear is water, and I prefer bottled water. Recently I went to a gig at a Pub to see some friends play, and when my husband asked for a bottle of water at the bar they told him that they didn't sell it. My husband explained that it was all that I could drink and asked if I could bring in my own. The bar staff checked with the manager and he said no, so my husband and I were going to leave as I couldn't last for more than five minutes without a sip of water. A friend of mine, who was in the band playing that night heard about this and went and explained the situation to the manager, who then said that I could bring in my own bottled water. We had a great evening.
A few weeks later the same band were playing at the same pub, and we went to watch them again. At the door I asked the manager if they had any bottled water, and he said that they had had to get some in as it was so popular. When I said that they hadn't had any the previous time I was there, he said 'Oh are you the lady from Canada' I think the music must have been too loud on the first night, as he obviously misheard cancer for canada. But I really can't think why he thought that a lady from canada could only drink water. |
