This morning, as I left for the library, I got in my car, closed the door and grabbed the gearshift. It didn't move. I tried it a couple more times with the same result.

Then I started the car and the problem resolved itself as if by magic!

A week or so ago I drove to a filling station (my car was nearly on fumes). This particular station has had a lot of "drive offs" (people filling up and taking off without paying) so they require prepayment. I went in, handed over my money and headed back to my car. I got in, started the car and very nearly took off without filling the tank.

In the words of my favorite comedian, Emo Philips, some days it just doesn't pay to chew through the leather straps.
