hi everyone

My dad has been diagnosed with layrngeal cancer this morning following a biopsy last week, he's going to see a professor this afternoon to discuss treatment options as all te ENT docs have told him at the moment is that he has a large tumour on his larynx and will probably need an operation and radiotherapy

My mum has just finished her third lot of radiotherapy for breast cancer (she has about a year to live) and I'm devastated

I'm going to lose my mum soon and am now worried how to cope with this with my dad

My mum is a very strong person and has dealt with her illness unbelieveably well but I'm worried my dad will now fall apart

I know until he's been to the hospital this afternoon we won't know what's happening but after reading how extensive some of your surgeries have been I just know my dad will not cope with that

I have 2 children under 8 aswell and just feel I am losing my parents together and am finding it so hard to cope, I have to work too and am worried how I'm going to be able to support my parents while they're both ill

please help, any advice would be great

Hello Rach

I have seen several patients after their laryngeal cancer who are have done well. Please don't write off your dad. You need to be strong to help your dad and mum. Take each day at a time.

Take care of yourself and don't panic.

Best wishes

Hi Rachel, My partner Martyn was 41 when first diagnosed with cancer of his larynx, he had a total laryngetomee im may of this year and has coped extremelly well. We have 6 children between us both and both have jobs. Martyns mum at the time was having chemotherapy for bowel cancer, and his dad had a stroke, so we found this huge strain.I had to take a month off work mainly because of the distance I had to travel to visit martyn. I took up any offers of help from family and friends to help with the children, and this took a huge ammount of pressure off me, so I could spend time helping martyn recover from his op,I must be honest and at times I really didnt think I could cope, but I looked at martyn and what he was having to deal with and it made me pull myself back together and gave me that extra strength that I needed, if you need to have a chat let me know. I am here for you and please dont feel that you are on your own.
