I am trying to find out different ways to help Jerry my husband to cope with this. It get's really hard at times. I just wish he could heal up so they can take out the peg tube and he can eat and drink.

Jerry had a larygectomy in december due to throat cancer. He was a very vocal person before all of this. He did go to the Dr again today, they put a plug in the fistula that was coming out of his neck. This will help him not having to suction out the stuff that has been coming out of this fistula. He will be going back again next week until then we are trying to take one day at a time. Thanks for writing by the way we are from Axtell Tx a very little town between Dallas and Austin but close to Waco and also Crawford where President Bush lives. I will keep you posted Thanks Terry

Hi Labose, thank you for writing Jerry is feeling a little better I think the weather helps he can not handle the cold. His ENT doc also put him on a antipressant which I think might be helping also. I think it bothers Jerry going out in public because everyone wants to stare at the hole in his neck I feel like asking them what the hell are you looking at

I know the feeling of being stared at, but after awhile I believe its all in your head. It took me a year to go out in public, and I was sorry I waited that long. Believe me things work out.

Thanks for writing Labose, Jerry does get out some he goes to the grocery store I know it is hard for him but he does try to get out of the house especially now that it is nice out. Are you able to eat or do you have a peg? Can I ask how long it has been since you were diagnosed.

Terry

First found a lesion on voice box in 1997 had radiation and it got it. Then in 2003 it had returned so had voice box removed, rads was out of the question only can do it once. I was eating 3 days after operation , sense of taste was bad no smell either. Now 2 years later taste has returned smell at times if its heavy like a roast cooking. Takes time, have faith

Hi, Jerry was doing well after his voice box was removed but a month later he developed the fistula which then he could not swallow and they had to put the feeding tube back in. They say it was because of the radiation that he had made his skin so damaged. He was going to look into hyperbaric oxygen treatment but he is afraid that the insurance will not pay for it I say lets do it anyway and pay them what we can a month, but he is hard headed
