Hi
It's nearly three years since my diagnosis of tongue cancer. As a result of the op and radiotherapy I have major eating problems and restricted movement in right shoulder. Other than this I am in fairly good shape. I have started to apply for jobs and am unsure of the question on forms asking if I have a disability.Opinions / advice welcome.

The Disability Discrimination Act considers a diagnosis of cancer as a disability. You don’t have to have symptoms or to consider yourself to be disabled by your cancer to be covered. But the Act does give you important rights. These rights might affect
  • Your work
  • Your education
  • How you use services
  • Your housing needs

Hi,
I had radical neck dissection & tonsillectomy in June last year followed by chemo and radiotherapy. I had to give up work as a self employed swimming coach. I have just found out from chatting to someone in a waiting room at hospital that I can claim incapacity benefit. I presumed as a self employed person with no critical illness cover I was left to be penniless. So everyone ASK what you may be entitled too. I have lost many weeks of allowance that I was entitled to.

It appears not one of the ten who have done the poll so far has been told about their rights! Thinking
