Lymphedema is a buildup of a fluid called lymph and protein in the tissues under the skin. Lymph accumulates when there is an obstruction to normal flow causing swelling. The lymph system is similar to the blood system in its network of vessels that carry lymph fluid throughout the body.
Trauma to lymphatic tissue by surgery or radiotherapy is the main cause of lymphedema in the context of cancer. It can result from surgery and/or radiation therapy during treatment for cancers. For more: LYMPHEDEMA

Hi, is this why I look like a Hampster when I get up, my neck is always swollen, then my nose runs like a tap for on off a couple of hours, then I can face the day. My neck lymph glands were removed. I try to sleep a bit like an african bush man, but I put my hand under my chin in order to try and keep my mouth closed, as the pain of the dry mouth wakes me up; also I try not to lean over as the neck swelling is worse in the morning. :sigh:
