Cancer can be a tremendous financial burden, on a patient as well as on a family. Besides hospital bills, cancer treatment includes many expenses that insurance often doesn't cover, such as transportation or child care. If the person with cancer or caregiver has to stop working, the financial crisis becomes greater. Some relief is available, but it will take effort to piece together what is available.

Click Financial Help for People with Cancer for the checklist developed by CancerCare to help guide you in finding options.

A cancer diagnosis and treatment can interfere with your ability to work, causing financial difficulties for the entire family. The good news is that many government programs are designed to help people with such difficulties. These programs are known as entitlements, and as the name implies, you are entitled to these services because you have supported them through your tax contributions. Getting to know the various entitlement programs will arm you with the knowledge and skills needed to get the most out of all the benefits for which you may qualify.

Thanks so much for these links. I rarely scroll down to the bottom of the forum listings, so I hadn't seen this one before.

My daughter is the CEO of NCADD (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence) for Sacramento County. This sort of information is valuable to her clients and their families - they're the least likely to be able to obtain employment that offers regular benefits (health care, life insurance, etc.)

Sacramento NCADD

Thanks!
