Hi. I'd love to be able to help you, but it's easier if you go to the Introduce Yourself section of the board first.

Please help me! There is a small bump at the back of my tongue, so back there that when i try to touch it I gag. Anyways the problem is it's very irritating. When I rub it on the roof of my mouth or when when I swallow it feels like when you have a popcorn shell stuck back there and can't get it out. Please help me with this very irritating problem. p.s. it's only been a couple of hours since it first started.

Hi Satasi

It could be any number of things, from an inflamed taste bud to a popcorn hull. If you haven't done it already, the first thing would be a thorough brushing and rinsing (teeth and tongue). If the sensation is still there, look at your tongue in the mirror to see if there's a scratch or somesuch. You said it's at the back of your tongue--could you have bitten it, perhaps in your sleep? If it's not feeling better in a couple of days, you should probably have a doctor look at it.

Please let us know how it turns out.

Julia

Thank you so much Julia! Yes the minute I saw the bump i started brushing like crazy. Does an inflamed tastebud feel like that? If it is and inflamed taste bud how long does it take to go away? Also can a popcorn haul actually get under the skin of your tounge or is that highly impossible?

I had an inflamed taste bud a couple of years ago and it hurt like the dickens but it cleared up in about a week; a visit to your doctor would not be a bad idea. I can't imagine a hull making its way under the skin on your tongue.
