Hi Sara i was told the other day when i rang the ward that Vic would still not be talking when he came home. This made me panic and this morning i rang the main number for macmillian nurses who gave me the social workers number and the speech therapist number for the hospital he is in. I rang the social work department first who said they would contact the ward and then get back to me When they eventually got back to me they told me that Vic would not need a social worker when he got home. Then i rang the Speech Therapist Department who told me that they had seen Vic that morningand that he could now swallow and talk quite good.THIS WAS A HUGE RELIEF.How long did your dad have his Traceotmy Tube in for Vics had his in for nine days. Was your dads face really swollen up and did his face look really different after his operation. Vic wouldent allow any visitors till he got rid of all his tubes he says we can visit now but were dreading what he may look like. His sisters going tomorrow afternoon and im going tomorrow night. His sister says if he looks that bad she will probably pass out and end up in the bed next to him. Hope to hear from you soon Tracy.

Hi Tracy, at least you know something now - what a relief! My dad didn't have a trac tube so I don't know how long they're usually in for. I know it's scary but I don't think that Vic's appearance will be as bad as you think. Everyone is different of course, but with my dad the swelling wasn't too awful, his face just looked a bit puffy really, the neck part is a bit more of a shock because of all the staples, but I don't know if Vic has had this or not? I'm sure you'll all feel much better when you've seen each other. Let me know how it goes - I'll be thinking of you, all the best, Sara
