SmilerWhy do we all suffer from lack of information? re Jaws, clenching, chewing gum etc. vicious circle, that no one tells you about! I have no saliva, so chew gum, this is not good as it over works your jaw, and jaw goes into spasms. In order to get a couple of hours sleep as have to sip water on and off all night, I have been sleeping with duvet under my jaw holding it shut, so this has not helped me, 18 months on, my jaw no opens and shuts like a clam, when it feels like, end up with bitten tongue, side of cheeks are raw. Have learnt though Dr Vinod jaw should hang loose; why doesn't the hospital inform you off this ????
I have now had a fitting for what looks like a gum sheild that prize fighters wear, a real passion killer for bedtime, well trying out tonight for the first time so I will keep you posted.

Hi Garance

Often the pains in the area of the ear and side of face are TMD Myofascial pains which are misdiagnosed. See: Oncologic stress: Its causality in myofascial pain disorder or in temporomandibular disorder.

If you are able to program yourself not to clench at night, you won't need the 'passion killer'. Most of my patients prefer the 'splint of air' Wink.

Have a good weekend.

Best wishes
Vinod Coffee

This whole disease is a passion killer!
I haven't managed to start a new body piercing fashion with my peg tube yet, despite my son suggesting it might catch on!
