Dear Molly I cant tell you how painfull your throat will get as everyone has a different pain threshold. However, it sounds as though you need your Analgesia increased. Dont suffer, get on to your Medic ASAP if not sooner. If they offer you Morphia, take it. Be reasured, you wont become addicted to it & it really does help. Keep in touch, let us know how you progress. Fran.

I had very severe throat/mouth pain into my 4th week of RT (out of 6 and a half weeks). I couldn't swallow at all - liquid or moist food. It was excrutiating. I was brought into hospital and put on some intravenous antibiotics (as well as changing my pain meds). It really helped me for the remainder of my treatments.
The worst effects (pain wise) ease within a week or so of the RT finishing - it did for me anyway.
I would certainly check out the use of antibiotics to help ease the ulcerations etc.
It's been it's been 17 months since my last treatment - the side effects which remain are easy to cope with compared to the treatment time.

good luck - Tony

Hi Fran Smiler Well, they took me off the pain patch because I have been itching alot all over. They told me to just take my lortab and to use the litocane like I am supposed to. So, nothing has really changed. I suppose when I go into the Doc's office and start breathing fire, they will do something Razzer Sigh

Take care,

Molly

Hi Molly ,how are you today? I looked up your medication on the web as I did not recognise the names & couldnt equate it with whats given here.
Your throat by now must feel as though youve swallowed fire, so you may well breath fire over your Doc next time you see him!!
Do you see your Oncologist regularly? My Husbands(a wonderful lady) would not ALLOW him to be in pain, asking each time"have you any pain" if he said yes, up went the medication.
I see one of your drugs is an Opiate, so you well may have the dreaded constipation. We have a great medicine here called Movicol which I can recommend!
Things will get better as time passes but its hard at the moment. We are all with you in spirit.

Good evening Fran, Great to hear from you. The patch that they took me off is supposed to be a strong narcotic(this is a drug that addicts use to get high). Well, I started back on it myself last night because my throat hurt so bad. It seems to help somewhat, as my throat is definately on fire.

I dont have a regular onocologist as I had my surgery 100 miles away. But, I do see my ENT doc on a regular basis. And yes, that lovely side effect of constipation has set in. I wonder if I couls find Movicol here in the states?

Thanks for your support and kind words. It's so nice to have a friend that understands! Smiler

Take care!

Molly

Hi Molly sorry to have raised your hopes, just spoken to the manufacturers of Movicol & they dont produce it in the States Frowner Perhaps Melanie or Vickylynn could suggest something which is available on your side of the pond.
Gosh, 100 miles for Surgery!. Do you have to travel for the Radiotherapy?
Take care & get as much rest as you can.
