My father in law has a Well-differentiated Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma of about 2CM. I just did a little research and found out he had Lichen PLanus in 2002, and some symptoms seem to indicate that all this time he has probably also had it in oral form (OLP). Had the dermatologist screened him for OLP, he might have known sooner that his tongue ulcer might be cancerous. Instead, he went over 2 months without a biopsy. My concerns are now

1. SHould we involve a dermatologist in future preventive care for OLP (which appears to be the originating cause) post surgery or even prior to surgery?

2. HOw to locate reputable oncologists or dermatologists with relevant specialties in or near New Delhi, INdia. Papa is a retired army officer living in Noida.
3. I just came to this site and wanted to say god bless dr vinod for his help and information!

Thanks,
Tasha

Tasha, Since you're located in Michigan, I would call the American Cancer Societies 800 #. 800-ACS-2345 and put this question to them, they may have a data base that will be helpful.

my two cents

best wishes to you and your father in law.

Hi Tasha

I can't imagine how hard this must be on you and your family--trying to orchestrate medical care for your father-in-law from half-way around the world. If he were with you here, I'd strongly recommend the otolaryngologists at the University of Michigan hospital (if you're a Spartan booster or a Buckeye fan, please accept my apology--I meant no offense). The only doctors I've seen are ENT's, so I can't comment on the suitability of other practitioners.

The best person on this site to answer your question would probably be Ananth, a very helpful and charming gentleman from New Delhi.

I hope all goes well for your father-in-law; please keep us posted.
