Need a tongue biopsy......help!!!Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
Hi All, Don't know if you remember me but I'm David (I had a tongue biopsy a couple of years ago which turned out to be a capillary haemangioma.Fast forward to today and saw another consultant because my dentist referred me and said that you have a "white patch under your tongue". I said well maybe it's nothing and we can keep an eye on it for the time being. The consultant then walked in and had a look at it and said yes, you do have a white patch under your tongue and squeesed it with his finger and said " you need to have a biopsy on it. He asked a nurse when they could fit me in and she said a couple of months and he said I want to do it on Saturday......I'm dreading it. One thing I didn't mention though was that I've been taking nicorette which you put under your tongue and they are white and I place it where he said the white patch is but didn't think of mentioning it at the time and wondered if it's that that could be causing the white patch. I'm just dreading having the biopsy done because he said it isn't pleasant but only takes about five minutes and a couple of stiches. I know I'm looking for reassurance but I'm dreading it being done. I had stiches in my head once without them numbing it because they said the stiches would hurt more than the injection so surely it can't be worse than that. Thanks for reading it and hope everybody else is coping ok. Dave.

Forgot to add the surgeon did it under general anaesthetic last time.

Hello David The biopsy is likely to be done under local anaesthesia. A bit of soreness and soft foods only is likely to be a consequence. The white patch could be related to the placing of the nicorette under the tongue. Do let the consultant know. Let us know how you get on. Hi there, Was just about to have it done and the consultant said it had actually gone smaller so didn't do it. He said he wants to monitor it though and have to go back in six weeks. Phew........ Thanks for asking, Dave.
