A hairy situation

Hi Dr Joshi

I'm a 3 year survivor of T2 SCC N0M0. I had a hemiglossectomy and free flap resection using a filet from my right forearm. Because my arm is hairy, my flap is, too. It doesn't bother me, but during a recent dental visit, I was subjected to a haircut on my flap. Can you recommend a hair removal method, or should I simply tell my dentist to bugger off the next time he brings out the scissors. (No, this is not a joke)

Thanks,
Julia

Hello Julia

If the flap in not sensate, you could try pulling the hairs out by yourself using a ladies eyebrow tweezer or like. Your dentist was probably thinking it would be more comfortable, not realizing that you couldn't feel it.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes

I guess this is a case where any solution is worse than the problem. My flap definitely feels things, so tweezing is probably not an option. Thanks for the input anyway.
