I hate being a bother, but I have had this blister type of lump on my lip for about 18 months. (it is growing) I have scheduled an apt with my GP for Monday to finally get it looked at. (A friend of mine kindly pointed out to me that it could be oral cancer). Of course I am now very concerned.
My question is - does anyone know of anyone who has had a blister type of lump on their lip, that was diagnosed as oral cancer?
thanks so much in advance
Sue

Good afternoon Sue,
Cancers on the lips are,I understand, quite rare but one has to say not unknown. It is quite a coincidence that yesterday I attended my regular check up at the oncology clinic and one of my questions concerned a sore patch on my lower lip which seems to be persistant. The doctor gave me a steroid cream to apply and perhaps it is wishfull thinking but the discomfort seems to be a little better already.
There are quite a number of reasons why lumps appear and in most cases the treatment is simple.
Make sure you keep the appointment with your doctor even if the symptoms are subsiding, eighteen months is too long to put up with such a problem. If you are really worried you could always ask for a referal to the Maxillofacial unit at the local hospital where you will get the opinion of the experts in this field.
In which part of the UK are you located?
By the way you are not being a bother! we are here to help, if you have any more questions go right ahead and ask someone will have an answer fo you, there are about two thousand of us spread around the world, so in one Email you have just made two thousand friends.
I hope your visit on Monday goes well Sue, please let us know.
Keep Smiling Razzer
John

Hi John Smiler Smiler
Thank you so much for replying. It's nice to know I've made a friend! The lump on my lip isn't a blister, you can hardly see it as it is the same colour as my lip. The swelling bit is actually inside my lip. It was about the size of a pea for ages and I thought it was going away as I hadn't noticed it for a while, but I was shocked to see that it had grown lengthways along my lip. It isn't sore or anything either.
I've got a few other medical things going on and really hate having to ask the GP about something else!
Thanks again Smiler
Sue

Good Morning Sue,
Don't be concerned about asking your GP about something else, you need a positive answer to this problem because it is obviously a worry to you and worry does not help the healing process.
When I have something new to discuss I make written notes beforehand so that I don't overlook any details, it is worth doing because more often than not what we regard as trivial details which are not worth the mention are quite important to the doctor, timescale is also important, so get your pencil and pad out!
Please let us know how things go on Monday,in the meantime enjoy the weekend.
I hope you don't live on the waterfront in Staithes or Sandsend,or anywhere else on the East coast. It looks as though people there are going to have a soggy weekend.
Keep Smiling Razzer

Hi John Smiler
Yes I am on the East Coast - but North East. It's pretty windy and cold right now.
I always take a "letter" when visiting my GP. I could never manage to say what I meant, or it would come out the wrong way altogether!
I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and not long ago had a complete hysterectomy and went straight into a surgical menopause. My body had been different and strange ever since!
Thanks again for your support, I'll let you know how I get on.
Wishing you a good weekend too Smiler
Sue
