I am litterlly in tears, can this be done for me? I will be asking my doctor on the 7th, that is for sure. Wow!!!! That is truely amazing is it not, they tried that with me but it didn't work but that was also in 1990. Oh this is wonderful and great news for those of us who have lost some or most of our tongues to the awful ugly """C""". CANCER, Thank you for sharing that with us, Always, Vicki Lynn

Hi Paul

You can read that story in print, it is dated Nov. 14, 2003. I haven't been able to find out more. There is an earlier story on New Tongue Reconstruction Methods Help Patients with Mouth Cancer dated December 16, 2002, so I don't blame you for being sceptical! Roll Eyes

from Malignant Tumors of the Mobile Tongue
quote:
The greatest challenge remains in the field of tongue reconstruction. Numerous microvascular flaps have been described to give bulk and also sensation to the neotongue. Some even use motor reinnervation as a means to give some mobility to these tissues. Because of the complexity of integration of the intrinsic and extrinsic tongue musculature and the crucial role the tongue has in speech, taste, and deglutition, the ideal flap has yet to be identified.
But let's hope for an advance! Big Grin

Best wishes
Vinod :coffee:
