i have just heard today that my 82 year old fahter has layrnx cancer that is also in his tongue and other areas. Lymph glands are involved. He has been told that there is no surgery or treatment, why would this be? Is it to do with his age?

Just to clarify he is in the UK although i am in Egypt

Hello button nose

Sorry I missed your post.

The decision to treat with curative intent is affected by the location, size and spread of tumour. A patient's ability to survive the treatment is compromised by co-morbidities (ill health) that tend to increase with age but it is not to do with age but the health at that age.

The best person to seek advice from would be your father's oncologist.

Best wishes

When I originally posted this I had been told by the oncologist’s sec that the doctor would not speak to me because I was not next of kin my step mother was. As I live in Egypt and my Dad is in UK this attitude really infuriated me. It made me desperate for information which is why I posted here.

Fortunately since then I have spoken to the Macmillan nurse who was at the appointment with the doctor and my dad and she has explained everything and been most helpful and sympathetic. No comments about me not being next of kin.

Many thanks for your comments
