Hi a couple of questions here should a general dentist know about the complecations that can happen when removing a tooth in the area where they had radiotherapy eg osteoradionecrosis when they know the medical history.I can remember reading somewhere on the net about patients who have had reconsrtuction work done on there jaw (all teeth removed have had bone transplants)can get dental implants.

What, on the national health? Love your name by the way that's what my dad used to (affectionately) call me when I was the little girl in my pic.

Hello Buggerlugz
Dentists should be aware of the risk of osteoradionecrosis (ORN) in patients who have had radiotherapy to the jaws. Implant treatment, if appropriate, can be provided on the NHS by a member (the restorative dentistry consultant) of the hospital team treating you. Speak to them.
