I was wondering if any of you had a problem sleeping while going through RAD treatments? I am and RO prescribed Lunesta. Has anyone tried this??

Hi Molly Smiler

Oh yes, my Dan (SCC of tongue base) had varying degrees of insomnia throughout radiation/chemo treatments. (Still does sometimes... one year out.) He was offered a sleep aid prescription (Ambien) on several occasions, but always opted against it. I suppose it was because he was already taking a laundry list of drugs, (including an antidepressant) and just didn't want to add another. There were times though that I wish he had. The lack of sleep issue became a real problem on some days. (Plus, when he couldn't sleep... I couldn't either... and found it difficult to take good care of him when we had both missed several night's sleep in a row.) Of course proper rest aids in tolerating the treatments and recovery of the body afterwards.

I am all for trying the Lunesta your RO prescribed. The more quality sleep you can get right now, the better. I, personally, don't know anything about that particular sleep aid... but know it is a big seller on the drug market. If you start taking Lunesta and find it is not working for you (or causing other problems), it can always be discontinued.

Wishing you LOTS of rest,

Melanie

Sleeping problems - oh yes!!

It's not so much the rads as the whole stressful situation which made me a chronic insomniac. Zopiclone-also known as lunesta is very effective. If you need it do take it. After 3 months or so (maybe a bit less) it becomes ineffective. I then used to stay up all night!! and doze in bed during the day. It drove my wife mad. Things are much better now.
BTW anti-depressants are a great help if you need them. They helped me a lot.

cheers - Tony
