Its now 9mths since my Husband finished his Chemo/radiotherapy. He has been having some sharp darting pains from his remaining teeth & visited his Dentist for advice. She is aware of his condition & proposes over the next month to remove his remaining fillings, & replace them, as she feels they have deteriorated with the Radiotherapy She will replace the filling with either a silver or a white filling. What is the difference between them? Is this treatment one which you would recomend?, I am concerned that his remaining teeth may crumble when she starts working on them. She is a good Dentist & I have confidence in her, but I am worried about him. . | |||

Hi Fran Sharp darting pains (lasting seconds) brought on by hot/cold air/drinks could be a dentinal hypersensitivity caused by exposed root surfaces or a leaking filling. This can be managed by using a desensitising toothpaste (e.g Sensodyne, etc) topically at the sensitive pot like an ointment several times a day. A leaking filling just needs replacement. Occasionally such pains are also related to clenching activity which should be stopped.
